Background

Regional Centre, Delhi at IARI Campus is one of the five Regional Centres of NBSS&LUP. It is a self contained unit, undertaking research in soil resource mapping of the alluvial and hilly region of North-West India comprising of the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttranchal, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh covering an area of 66.5 m ha. The center has also the responsibilities of co-ordination and correlation of state soil survey work between various soil survey organizations of the region.

Mandate

Soil survey and mapping of the soils in the region to promote scientific programme.  
To interpret soil survey data for land use planning.
Research in pedology, assessment of soil degradation and to prepare agro-ecological maps of the region.
